Design is the second half of Food Design. A Food Designer should understand food, as well as Design. This course will show you what Design really is, and will show you HOW to design food, by training your skills and giving you the tools you need to design compelling, interesting, emotional solutions people will love.
Whether you are a chef wanting to design dishes, a product designer wanting to design with the food material, a restaurant owner, a food truck lover, or an event designer, you need a Design approach to be a successful food designer.

In this course answers the questions: What does it mean to design? What does a food designer do?
We’ll look at the relationship between shape and function, and we’ll understand what it means to design for an experience, for meanings, for emotions. We’ll dive into the core of designing with food, as opposed to other materials, and we’ll see how designing food is more than designing the food itself.
We’ll then understand what a design process is, and how creativity works and what’s the link with design. Finally this course gives you the tools, the Design Thinking tools, for you to immediately start your Food Design journey.

Dr. Francesca Zampollo is a Food Design Thinking researcher, consultant, teacher, and keen public speaker. She is the founding editor of the International Journal of Food Design, the first and only academic journal of Food Design, the founder of the International Food Design Society, and she organized the first, second, and third International Conferences on Food Design. Francesca earned a PhD in Design Theory applied to Food Design in 2014 and she taught Food Design and Design Theory at London Metropolitan University and Auckland University of Technology as a full-time senior lecturer and researcher.
